The Titan Edition: Our Standard

Every builder has a model that defines what they stand for. For RREV, that's the Titan Edition. At 27 feet, it's our largest expedition trailer — the one that proves what we're capable of when we have the canvas to work with fully.

This build log walks through what goes into a Titan. Not marketing copy — the actual engineering decisions, material choices, and build process.

The Chassis: Where It Starts

A 27-foot expedition trailer lives or dies on its chassis. The Titan's frame is purpose-built — not a modified production RV frame — from high-strength steel tube with full gusseting at stress points.

The chassis is hot-dip galvanized after fabrication, not powder-coated. Galvanizing penetrates the steel rather than coating the surface, providing corrosion protection that survives the mechanical abuse of serious off-road use. Powder coat chips. Galvanized doesn't.

Skid protection runs the full length of the underframe — 3/16" steel plate covering the critical centerline components. Trail debris, rocks, and ledges hit the skid plate, not your water tank or electrical conduit.

Suspension: Long-Travel Independent

The Titan runs a long-travel independent suspension system with 12" of wheel travel per corner. Each wheel moves independently — when the passenger-side rear tire drops into a 12-inch hole, the driver's side rear doesn't move.

This matters because lateral stability at camp and body roll on trail are both functions of how your suspension handles independent wheel inputs. Solid axle trailers rock. Independent trailers don't.

The suspension is tuned specifically for the Titan's loaded weight — not generic off-the-shelf spec. A heavy trailer with light-duty springs is as bad as a light trailer with overstiff springs.

The Shell: Aluminum Over Steel

The Titan's body is aluminum framing with composite skin panels — no wood. None. Wood in expedition trailers rots, delaminate with moisture cycling, and adds weight. The aluminum frame maintains structural integrity regardless of how many times it goes from desert heat to alpine cold and back.

Wall insulation is closed-cell spray foam in the structural cavities — R-14 walls, R-16 roof. This is four-season material. The Titan can maintain comfortable interior temperature in sub-zero conditions with its diesel heating system running.

Systems Integration: The Invisible Work

The systems work that happens inside the walls is where a great trailer differs from a good one.

Electrical conduit is run before wall panels go on — every wire has a dedicated run, properly sized, with accessible junction points. No hunting through walls to find a problem. No overloaded circuits because someone routed power through whatever was convenient.

Plumbing is PEX throughout, with heated lines in the floor cavities for winter use. The freshwater system is fully pressurized with a demand pump, inline filter, and an optional water filtration system. The grey water system is properly vented and accessible for cleaning.

Every RREV goes through a 48-hour systems test before delivery — running all electrical loads simultaneously, stress-testing water systems, cycling the heating and cooling under load. Problems found in the shop don't become problems on trail.

The Kitchen: Built for Real Cooking

The Titan's kitchen is full residential size — not "trailer kitchen." A real four-burner range with oven, residential-size compressor refrigerator and freezer, deep prep sink with commercial faucet, and 48 linear inches of counter space.

The reasoning: expedition travel is long. If your kitchen is uncomfortable to cook in, you'll eat badly, which affects your energy, your mood, and your experience. A proper kitchen isn't a luxury — it's an operational requirement for multi-week expeditions.

From Commission to Delivery

A Titan Edition currently takes 6–7 months from deposit to delivery. That time breaks down roughly as:

  • Weeks 1–3: Engineering and design finalization with the client
  • Weeks 4–8: Chassis and structural fabrication
  • Weeks 9–14: Systems rough-in (electrical, plumbing, HVAC)
  • Weeks 15–18: Interior build-out and finish work
  • Weeks 19–20: Systems commissioning, testing, and quality review

The client is involved throughout — build photos, milestone updates, and a walkthrough at the midpoint to verify everything is tracking to spec. Your rig, your build, your visibility.

What the Titan Is

The Titan Edition is not for everyone. It requires a capable tow vehicle (minimum 1-ton rated), experienced towing skills on off-road terrain, and a mission that justifies its size and capability.
