Towing your Baja Edition

  • Know Your Towing Capacity

Always check your two vehicle owner’s manual for the maximum towing capacity before hitching a trailer. Overloading can cause serious damage to the drivetrain and compromise safety.

  • Maintain a Level Ride Between Vehicle and Trailer

Ensure the trailer sits level with your Baja when hitched up. A level setup improves handling, braking, and weight distribution—reducing sway and strain on suspension components as well as the overall trailer.

  • Keep Proper Air Pressure in Trailer Air Bags

Maintain the recommended air pressure. Proper inflation ensures a smoother ride, better load balance, and reduces wear on both the trailer and tow vehicle.

Tandem Axles Hitch Load
  • The RREV Baja Edition Towing Calculator helps you estimate how much towing capacity your vehicle needs based on:

    • Dry weight of the trailer (6,300 lbs)

    • Water tank fill level (up to 83 gallons)

    • Gear or cargo weight (input manually)

    • Air suspension bias (front vs. rear axle pressure)

It also estimates tongue weight — the force pressing down on your hitch — which affects vehicle handling and safety.

  • Baja Edition has independent air suspension on tandem axles. This lets you fine-tune how much pressure is in each axle’s airbags.

    • More pressure in the rear bags (positive bias) shifts weight toward the back of the trailer.

    • More pressure in the front bags (negative bias) shifts the load closer to the hitch.

This shift affects the fulcrum point, which changes the tongue weight:

    • More front bias = more tongue weight (heavier on the hitch)

    • More rear bias = less tongue weight (lighter on the hitch)

This model visualizes that with the red circle, showing where the center of load is currently located on the trailer based on your bias setting.

    • Too little = trailer sway and unsafe towing

    • Too much = overloading the rear axle of your tow vehicle

A good tongue weight is typically 10–15% of total trailer weight — this tool helps you stay in that safe range.
